News from the Pews - 31 October 2025
Dear Friends
An assortment of news this week, beginning with the fact that church is already decorated for Remembrance-tide: knitted poppies are everywhere - many thanks to those who a) knitted them way back in 2018 and b) Carol Weyman and team who put them up - and an exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day opens tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am ('til 12 noon). You can find details of opening times in the latest edition of Jigsaw https://online.fliphtml5.com/jdagj/hdbc Thank you very much to hard-copy deliverers, and - as ever - to Linda Palmer for masterminding the operation!
Looking ahead to Remembrance Sunday, 9 Nov., there will be an 8am Communion service as usual, but NO 10am service. Instead, following simultaneous 11am Acts of Remembrance at the war memorial and in church (the church service is aimed at those who would struggle to stand at the war memorial), there will be a short 11.30am service in church, led by me and our local Methodist and Baptist ministers.
The Nov.-Jan. What's On gives details: hard copies will be available in church on Sunday.
Next, a notice from Gill Campbell:
Calling all 'budding' flower arrangers
I will soon be organising the flower rota for next year and would welcome anyone who is keen to have a go. You don't need to be experienced, just have an eye for flowers and we can get you started! If you would like to be included, please let me know as soon as possible at gillian.campbell56@outlook.com. Thank you!
Now looking ahead to this coming Sunday 2 Nov. At 10am, we'll celebrate All Saints' Sunday, and welcome Roly Shropshire, aged 7 months, and his family and friends as they join us for Roly's christening. The Bible readings will be: 2 Esdras 2: 42-end and Luke 6: 20-31.
Also on Sunday, at 3.30pm, there'll be Tea Time Church, led by Madeleine: a relaxed gathering for all ages, wrapping up at about 4.15pm with refreshments.
Hopefully I've remembered everything!
Perhaps see you Sunday, and with best wishes all round til then
Eleanor
