April: In the Footsteps of St Felix

You will see scaffolding again at St Andrew’s Church in May. The National Heritage Lottery Fund have agreed that we might use some unused contingency from the project to make some holding repairs to the nave roof. The need for this work was very apparent over Easter weekend, when heavy rain led to water pouring down the inside of the building, so we are grateful to be able to complete this additional work as part of our current project.

In July we invite you to join us at St Andrew’s Church for a Medieval Fair, Saturday 6th July from 12 noon until 4pm. Come and see knights fighting in the churchyard! Be entertained by our rowdy fool Peat! Polish up your circus skills with Jester Dragonfly! There will be professional storytelling from the Yarnsmith of Norwich. Archery from Have-a-go Archery. Music from The Cambridge Waits.

We’ll also be celebrating all the achievements of the ‘In the Footsteps of St Felix’ project. Wessex Archaeology and students from Soham Village College will be presenting their archaeological finds, dug up from local gardens. And the event will also be supported by our own heritage specialists, Burwell Museum and Soham Heritage and Tourism.

Of course, there will also be all the brilliant craft stalls and community fun and games that you would expect of the church’s summer fair. We have 30 craft and community stalls confirmed so far, so we are hoping this will be a big and busy event, but if you are a local maker or community group and would like to join in, we would still love to hear from you. Please email enquiries to Dale at standrewsheritage@gmail.com.

The event is FREE and everyone is welcome. It is an ‘all age’ event, with lots of free activities supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, so do spread the word and come along in July.
