That instrument had been built for the Trinity Congregational Church in Peterborough in 1877 by Forster & Andrews and was bought for St Andrew's in 1965. As the pipework of this instrument was of good quality much of it has been incorporated into the new organ as indicated below. Careful revoicing of this pipework has ensured a successful blend with the new ranks and has produced an instrument with a wide variety of colourful timbres and an exciting tutti. The key action is mechanical and the drawstop action electric, allowing electronic control of a wide selection of playing aids and giving each player their own pre-selected combinations of sounds at the touch of a thumb or toe piston. The casework is of European oak and incorporates decoration reflecting that of the medieval screen in the church. of St Andrew’s Church has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,300 years. In AD 631, St Felix, who according to the Anglo Saxon Chronicle introduced Christianity to East Anglia, founded an abbey here which is believed to have been endowed by Sigeberht, the king of East Anglia. The Abbey was in use for over 200 years until it was destroyed in the winter of AD 869/70 when the Danish ‘Great Heathen Army’ overran East Anglia. St Andrew’s Church can trace its origins to the early 12th century when Hubert de Burgh, Chief Justice for England granted Ranulph, the first recorded Vicar of Soham, lands in trust for the building of the Church of St Andrew. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f73705b84d86f6ec52adace/1604757179745-FFX8EZB737BZFE4YBR1G/DSC09270-40.jpg Building History Ranulph is credited with the design of the church building and much of the original 12th century building church is still standing today. These including three wall paintings in the chancel, one reputed to depict St Felix, pews with carved poppy heads, misericords and a tie-beam roof in the nave. Little Wombatz and children cared for by childminders in Soham, Fordham and Wicken had both contributed trees to the festival. The children were especially thrilled to see their tree and the decorations they had made.
