Restoration Appeal

In September 2018, Soham Parochial Church Council was successful in obtaining a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant of £74K to tackle a long-standing problem with blocked gutters and downpipes. Because water can’t get out, it’s seeping into the fabric of the building threatening yet more problems.

A very significant contributory factor to these blockages is pigeons.  The HLF grant will help us to clear and undertake repairs to the gutters and take steps to break the cycle of pigeon roosting. This work is due to start early in 2019, and is the first phase of St Andrew’s Restoration Project.

Welcome though the HLF grant is, the church building requires additional, significant repair work as well as a new roof. Anyone walking through the churchyard can’t fail to notice the fencing round the base of the church tower. The tower’s surface is crumbling away and there is a risk of falling stones, hence the need to keep the area at the base of the tower cordoned off. The whole exterior of the tower is in need of urgent repair.

Since the fencing went up, people have asked what they can do to help. A donation to our Restoration Appeal and any fundraising activities you might like to put on in support of that Appeal would be most welcome. A restricted fund has been set up which means that any donations made to the fund will be used solely for restoration work.

There are many ways to give to the appeal:
